Beaumont Hospital case study
Epilepsy is the most common serious neurological disorder of young people and affects an estimated 50 million people worldwide, and up to 37,000 people in Ireland have the disorder. Beaumont Hospital operates the HSE National Clinical Care Programme for Epilepsy in Ireland. The challenge was simple, effectively communicate the official opening of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Beaumont Hospital for those living with epilepsy in Ireland.
The official opening of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit was arranged to coincide with European Epilepsy Day, with Dr.James Reilly T.D., Minister for Health. The official opening focused on the patient stories and how the new unit would significantly improve the quality of life of those affected by the condition. The official opening also allowed Beaumont to showcase the calibre of its multi-disciplinary team working in the Neurology Department.
The official opening leveraged substantial media coverage with Irish broadcast and print media. This gave the Neurology team in Beaumont a national platform to highlight the plight of those suffering with Epilepsy in Ireland and the steps that Beaumont Hospital are taking to improve and develop services for its patients.
